Shale Shaker Screen Selection

Shale Shaker screen selection is the largest, single factor affecting the overall performance of the shale shaker. Understanding the factors that impact screen performance can aide in the selection of screens. 

• Shale Shaker Screen performance is measured by: 

1. Separation performance (size of the solid removed) 

2. Liquid throughput (amount of fluidtransmitted) 

3. Shale Shake Scren Service life 

• Particle sizes and screen openings are usually measured in microns 

• The purpose of screening is to remove as much as possible of the drilled solids larger than the barite particles 

• In this manner bentonite, barite, and the liquid phase of the mud containing the chemicals are salvaged; the coarse, drilled solids are discarded. Since only a very small amount of mud that adheres to these larger particles is lost from the system, screening is a very economical way to remove drilled solids.
